Peles & Bran castle tour

Romania’s remarkable collection of castles and fortresses reveals a fascinating journey through centuries of medieval history. From imposing stone fortresses built between the 14th and 18th centuries to defend the land against invaders, to elegant royal residences and luxurious palaces of the late 19th century, each monument tells a captivating story filled with legends, mystery, and heritage.

Among the country’s most iconic landmarks is the magnificent Corvin Castle, a 14th-century Gothic masterpiece built on the site of a former Roman camp. Equally impressive is Peleș Castle, one of Europe’s most beautiful royal castles, featuring over 160 richly decorated rooms filled with priceless European art and exquisite craftsmanship. No journey through Romania would be complete without visiting the legendary Bran Castle, famously associated with Bram Stoker’s iconic character, Count Dracula.

Romania’s dramatic landscapes and mysterious castles have long inspired world literature. Two of the most famous literary works connected to this enchanting land are The Castle in the Carpathians by Jules Verne and Dracula by Bram Stoker.

Transylvania, often called “the land beyond the forest,” preserves one of Europe’s most unique cultural treasures. Nearly nine centuries of Saxon heritage have left behind an extraordinary network of villages, fortified churches, and medieval fortifications dating from the 13th to the 15th centuries. Seven of these fortified churches — including those in Biertan Fortified Church, Câlnic Citadel, Prejmer Fortified Church, and Viscri Fortified Church — are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

A visit to these charming villages, surrounded by rolling green hills and peaceful countryside, offers travelers an authentic glimpse into a timeless medieval world where tradition, history, and nature blend in perfect harmony.
